Liam's trainers are the brothers Whiteway.  George(or BIG GEORGE as he's sometimes known) is Liam's grandfather(pictured above).  George is an amiture champion weightlifter in his own right and allong with his brother Ronnie(pictiured below left) coaches for the St Gabriels Weightlifting Club in North Belfast.

Along with the junior team St Gabriels has a formidable senior team includeing Liam's cousin Liam Whiteway and a 2002 World Masters Champion Laurence Crommie(pictured below right)
